I feel like I forgot a very important post –packing! Which is odd for me since I feel like after moving around so much I have nailed the art of making packing list, but with roommates this is going to be a challenge. This list can be used for both PI and the DCP, but I will mark if it is more important for one or the other to have. Also fair warning this is combination of multiple list I found, as well as items I feel like I needed to bring as well. This of course does not apply if you live outside Disney housing, since you will need obvious things like furniture*.
Bedroom:
Mattress topper
Mattress pad (I suggest a thick one these beds are not comfortable –I brought a full size one and flipped it to fit)
Twin XL sheets (usually sold with College Dorm stuff)
Extra pillowcases
Twin XL comforter (also sold with College Dorm stuff)
2-3 standard pillows
Body pillow (if your like me your bed was up against a wall)
Throw blanket (sometimes it gets cold, or if your like me your roommate cranks up the A/C)
Bed risers (they are really nice since without them there is no room for storage under the bed)
Bed bug spray (I always suggest this since you just never know)
Nightside lamp (table style)
Bathroom:
2-3 body towels
2 hand towels
Washcloth / Loofah
Shower curtain
Rug
Electronics:
Surge protector
Laptop & Charger (they have computers available, but personal one is more convenient)
Router (yup while your apartments have access to internet no wifi without this)
Television (optional for DCP, and as for you PI it comes with your apartment)
Coaxial cable
DVD Player (optional for DCP & PI, but when I was there my roommates & I took advantage of the endless Disney DVDs we could rent for free)
Fan (you may want one sometimes it tends to get a bit warm in the apartments)
Closet:
Hangers
Cascading storage hanger (especially for PI all those business professional shoes need to be stored somewhere)
Landry bag / basket
Storage:
Under bed bins with lids (This will matter a little more for those who are planning on staying for a year it just makes moving easier)
Plastic drawers (My roommate and I had this in our bathroom to store personal things instead of putting it under the sink)
Cleaning: I suggest buying these when you get there
Bug Spray (I know it seems odd but if you read my earlier post especially in DCP housing roaches are a problem)
Windex
Lysol / Clorox
Paper Towels
Disinfect wipes
Trash bags
Dawn
Sponge / Cleaning brush
Laundry detergent
Dryer sheets
Stain remover (cleaning your costumes especially if have the right size is easier then exchanging them every time they are dirty)
Vacuum cleaner (PI can ignore this)
Hand soap
Ironing board & Iron (PI in roles with business professional you will use this often –at least I did since the dryer always left wrinkles)
Kitchen:
Brita water pitcher / Brita for the sink (Especially in Florida the tap water is 100% disgusting)
Coffee maker (if your like me coffee is how mornings become a thing)
Toaster (we never used ours, but you might want one)
Kitchen towels
Blender (I live on smoothies so this was essential)
Living Room:
Standing light / table light (lighting is pretty bad in the DCP apartments, but PI should be fine)
General:
Post-It Notes (my roommates and I used it to leave each other notes)
Pens / Pencils
Push Pins (they give you a corkboard, but no pins?)
Calendar (we used it to write out schedules down so we all knew when we were working)
Clothing:
Dress pants / Dress Skirts (PI will need more especially if in non-costumed role, but DCP will need them for classes, Traditions, orientation day)
Blazer / Suit Jacket
Dress Shirts (again PI will need more of these then the DCP)
Flats / Heels / Dress Shoes (PI will need more then the DCP especially if non-costumed role)
Pajamas (do not be like my roommate and forget them)
Formal dress (for you DCP it is nice to have if you happen to be there for formal)
Shirts / Tanks
Jeans
Sweatshirt (yes it does get chilly –not cold chilly in California and in Florida)
Jacket (I suggest this after the one year I did not bring one, and it dropped to 30 degrees in Florida –only at night)
Raincoat (Florida! Bring one!!)
Sneakers / Casual shoes (nice for going to the parks)
Workout clothes (why not take advantage of the free gym?)
The personal stuff (underwear, socks, and etc.)
Bathing suit (again why not take advantage of the beach, and the pool?)
Now for those wondering what I brought for make-up / skincare / hair care I’m the 100% worst all those years of working at Nordstrom & MAC finally got to me (lol do not judge I know I have a problem). Also you can buy some of this when you get there as well.
Clarifying shampoo (I suggest clarifying again the water is not great and can cause buildup in your hair –gross)
Shampoo & Conditioner
Body wash
Cleanser
Toner
Moisturizer (I suggest something with SPF)
Sunscreen (yup for the body as well especially for you DCP who work outside –lifeguards thank me later)
Straightener / Curling Iron (If you have a flat iron with rounded edges just bring that and use it for curling. It is easier then carrying around tow hot tools)
Heat protectant
Make-up (anything you wear daily and cannot live without –if you are like me that means you can leave your 100+ lipsticks, eyeliners, and eye shadows at home)
Feminine products
Cotton rounds / balls
Q-Tips
Toothpaste & Floss
Toothbrush
Mouthwash
Deodorant
Emory board / nail clipper (no one wants to break and nail and get stuff with no way to fix it)
Tweezers
First aid kit
Nail polish / remover (you can bring this I did not I prefer to get mine done)
Finishing oil (if you are like me get on to help with frizz)
Medications
Also I do not know how many times people forget, but remember to bring your check-in stuff. Your DORMS form, government IDs, social security card / passport, and blank voided check (just in case). I also suggest bring $$$ yup that is right money you will not get paid until the second or third pay cycle (which is 2-3 weeks).
Again to be clear some people add more stuff such as accent pillows and what not, but I did not bring any of those. All of you are going to be living with roommates, so my number one suggestion is before you pack anything coordinate with each other.
*I actually did a mark here since I know some people will struggle with how to bring furniture of they live off property. Here is some advice first off there is a Target, Wal-Mart, and an Ikea nearby so you can always buy stuff when you get here. Also there is a Disney College Program Trading Page that had furniture for sale on it from time-to-time from people leaving. I have found bedframes, dressers, tables, and etc. so that is just as thought as well. I will leave the link for that group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/DCPTradingPost/
